1 Day tour to Rhino tracking tour transfers you to the only home of wild rhinos in Uganda (Ziwa Rhino sanctuary) for your great lifetime experience. You will be in position to see these endangered magnificent creatures in their natural home. Ziwa rhino sanctuary is located in Nakasongola district adjacent to Nakitoma village in the north east of Kampala Ziwa rhino sanctuary is not a very large area; it lies on approximately 70 sq.km north east of Kampala capital city of Uganda.

The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary protects Uganda’s only wild rhinos and is located just north of Kampala near the famous Murchison Falls.

In total, the sanctuary protects 34 rhinos and is also a fantastic place to see other wildlife.

Enjoy bird watching, nature walks, relaxing, and of course finding and watching the rhinos. The rangers of the sanctuary will guide you around the reserve to find the wildlife, including the rhinos themselves, crocodiles, hippos, antelopes and much more.

Birders often enjoy the reserve and spend time finding some of the 250 different species. You can find some fascinating birds within the sanctuary boundaries, including a number of rare species.

The sanctuary was founded by various wildlife and conservation organizations in an attempt to restore Uganda’s rhinoceros population.

The sanctuary protects rhinos while they breed and grow. They are then re-introduced into Uganda’s protected areas, such as Queen Elizabeth National Park. While awaiting their reintroduction, visitors can enjoy seeing these remarkable animals while helping to spread the importance of rhino conservation in the country.

A total of 80 rangers and guards watch over the sanctuary day and night to maintain the animals’ safety.

Itinerary

Early in the morning after your morning breakfast, Avelisa tours driver guide will pick you up at 7:00am from the agreed point or hotel of residence in Kampala or Entebbe. The driver guide will brief you about the 1 day Rhino trekking trip. Embark on a 3 hours drive to Ziwa rhino sanctuary

We shall drive through the districts of Kampala, Luweero until we reach Nakasongoladistrict the home of Ziwa rhino sanctuary found along Kampala-Gulu highway. Upon arrival at the Rhino sanctuary, you will be further welcomed and briefed by highly trained rangers who will also guide you through the rhino tracking activity. The rangers will give you guidelines and history of the sanctuary.

During tracking you will see a number of white rhinos at a very close proximity; you will get a chance of seeing other species of animals. The sanctuary is home to at least 40 mammal and reptilian species including monkeys, antelopes, hippopotamuses, crocodiles and numerous bird species like shoebill stock and reptiles. You will be in position to take photos as well ask questions about rhinos and wildlife at large

The tracking activity will last for 2 hours depending on the location of rhinos because tracking is done on foot.

After rhino tracking experience at Ziwa rhino sanctuary, return and meet your driver, transfer to kabalega dinners for lunch, relaxation and embark on a journey back to Kampala or Entebbe or you preferred drop off point.
