Itineraries

Day 1

Pick up and transfer to hotel

Arrive in Entebbe following the flight from your country of origin. Land at Entebbe international airport the main gate way to the pearl of Africa where you will find a company representative of Avelisa tours and travel dedicated to offer you a courteous welcome to the pearl of Africa. After a short briefing 11 days Uganda safari days Uganda safari, you will connect to the hotel in Entebbe for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

Mabamba bay wetlands, afternoon transfer to Kibale Forest National park

After early morning breakfast, head out to one the few remaining swamps in the country protected by the local communities, Mabamba Wetlands, an extensive papyrus stretching through along narrow bay fringed with papyrus towards the western main body of Lake Victoria is home and therefore perfect destination for sighting a shoe bill stork and many other bird species while on canoe trip
Furthermore, it is classified as an important Bird Area and home to several pairs of Shoebills. This charismatic monotypic species is certainly amongst the most sought-after birds in Africa. We’ll make special efforts today to find it by paddling through the channels by boat.
There will of course be a good selection of classic East African water birds, for instance Pink-backed Pelican, Long-tailed Cormorant, Goliath Heron, African Open-billed, Saddle-billed, and Marabou Storks, Hammerkop, White-faced Whistling-Duck, Yellow-billed Duck, African Fish-Eagle and many others. Later in the afternoon, we drive to Kibale Forest N. Park for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Bird Kibale forest National Park

Birding in Kibale National Park, the primate capital of Africa with 13 primate species including 1500 chimpanzee, Olive baboon Black and white colubus monkey, Grey cheeked monkey, Vevet monkey, L’hoest, and Blue monkey. Additionally kibale national park offers a delightful birding experience with checklist of more than 350 bird species out of which 4 are endemic to the region like blue headed bee eater, Nahan’s francolin, the masked apalis, and Cassin’s spinal tail. We shall look for species such as Afep Pigeon, Green-breasted Pitta, Joyful Greenbul, Grey-winged Robin, Grey-throated Flycatcher, Dark Backed Weaver, White Browed Crombec and others. Thereafter, we will go for Lunch at the hotel.
In the afternoon we shall go for birding on a guided nature walk to Bigodi wetland sanctuary located in Magombeswamplying with in the corridor of kibale forest national park, a bird watching paradise which is a home to the great Turaco shelters over 138 species of birds like papyrus gonolek, white wingled warbler, papyrus canary, black bishop among others, 8 species of primates like blue monkey, grey cheeked mangabey monkey, l’hoest monkey, among others, mammals like sitatungas, bushbacks, otters and chimpanzee in the evening. Later, we shall have Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 4

Transfer to Semliki National park and Birding at Kirumia Trail

After breakfast we will transfer to Semliki national park located in the western region of Bundibugyo district bordering democratic republic of Congo, an extension of the great Ituri forest is a true birders haven with over 450 bird species representing 40% of the total numbers of bird species living in Uganda, represents 60% of a country’s forest bird species, 46 guinea congo biome bird species that can’t be found in any other east African countries, 5 species of albertine rift endemic species. Bird enroute connecting to semliki national park, you will check in at the lodge and head for evening birding. Look for species for instance Spot-Breasted Ibis, Hartlaub’s duck, Chestnut-flanked Goshawk, Long-tailed Hawk, Nkurengu Rail, Western Bronze-naped Pigeon, Black-collared Lovebird, Yellow-throated Cuckoo, Red-Chested Owlet. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast we will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Parka home to a plethora of birdlife with over 600 bird species the most comprehensive checklist of any protected area in east Africa is attributed to rich variety of eco system from dense tropical forest of kyamburagorge to the wetland habitats of Lake Edward and George. Bird en-route through the northern side of Rwenzori Mountains as connect to Queen Elizabeth national park. Later, we shall bird along the edge of the Park and then check in at the lodge in evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 6

Early morning game drive, afternoon boat trip.

After breakfast, a morning game drive and birding will be ideal. Afterwards, we shall have Lunch at the lodge and go for the boat launch on Kazinga Channel in the afternoon where we shall see a variety of wildlife and bird life as well. Additionally, a variety of game such as hundreds of hippos, crocodiles will be viewed. Other animals like Elephants, Buffaloes, Uganda Kob, Bush buck, Warthog will include Green-backed heron, Yellow billed stork, Saddle billed Stork, African spoonbill, martial eagle, African Skimmer, grey headed gull, grey, purple and goliath herons, black Crake, African Crake, Common quail and Rufous-naped lark. Later in the evening after the boat we head for an evening drive for Night jarsafter which we return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7

Transfer to Bwindi National Park via Ishasha sector.

Early morning transfer toBwindi impenetrable national park a UNESCO world heritage world heritage site and home to almost 50% of the world mountain forest giants (gorilla) is a true birders paradise with an impressive list of360 bird species with 14 of these know to be Albertine endemic to the region, not recorded anywhere else in Uganda such as short tailed warbler, blue headed sun bird as well as 7 IUCN red data listed species of birds. Drive to Bwindi impenetrablevia Ishasha with enroute birding and lunch. At Ishasha, we shall see a variety of Game including climbing lions, Elephants Buffaloes and other game. Having reached in the evening, we shall bird around the lodge/hotel on arrival in the evening for species like Blue quail, African Crake, Ross’s Turaco, Jackson’s Pipit, Red-headed lovebird, Cassin’s Flycatcher, Black bee-eater, White-backed, Lappet Faced, Ruppel’s, White-headed, Palmnut Vultures, Martial, Wahlberg, Fish Eagles, Shining Blue King fisher after which we return to the lodge for dinner and overnight night.

Day 8

Early morning bird Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After Breakfast, bird along the main trail for species like Red-throated Alethe, Archer’s Robin chat, Kivu Ground Thrush, Montane Masked Apalis, Short-tailed Warbler, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Western Bronze-naped Pigeon and others. Later after lunch transfer to Ruhizha via “the neck” birding en-route.Dinner and overnight at Tavern Trekkers.

Day 9

Whole day birding Mubwindi swamp.

After early breakfast, we will walk down with packed lunch to Mubwindi swamp looking for specials like the green Broadbill, Grauer’s Rush warbler, Evergreen Forest Warbler, Dwarf Honey-guide, Grey Chested Illadopsis, Cabanis’ Greenbul, Mt.Greenbul, Sharps Barred Long Tailed Cuckoo, Starling, Oriole Finch, the incredible Purple-breasted Sunbird, Slender-billed, Wallers, Narrow-tailed and Stuhlmann’s Starlings, Dusky, Red-faced, Abyssinian and Shelley’s Crimson wings, Strange weaver and many other specials. Return for dinner and overnight

Day 10

Transfer to Lake Mburo

Depart for Lake Mburo National Park situated near Kampala is a home to 350 species of birds like rare shoebill, grey crowned crested crane, brown chested wattled plover, greater cormorant, Ross’s turaco among others. Additionally Lake Mburo is a home to wildlife mammals explored on game drive like zebra, giraffes, elands, buffaloes, reedbucks, klipspringer, topi, and leopards among others. Bird enroute as you connect to the park in the western part of the country birding en-route. Dinner and overnight at Rwakobo Camp.

Day 11

11 of 11 days Uganda birding safari Early morning boat ride and later transfer to Entebbe.

After an early breakfast, we will take an early morning boat ride in search of African Finfoot and other water birds. Our highlight will be Brown-chested Plover, Spot-Flanked, Red-faced and White Headed Barbets, Coqui’s and Red winged Francolin, Greater/Lesser Honey Guides, Marico/Scarlet Chested/Variable/Copper Sunbirds, Greater Blue Eared Starling, White-Winged Warbler, Trilling cisticola, Carruthers’ Cisticola, Papyrus Gonolek, Sulphur Breasted Bush Shrike, Tabora cist cola, white winged tit, African pendrin tit, Nubian wood pecker, Black Billed Wood Dove Green backed pecker, Yellow-billed Oxpeckers and Northern Brown –throated. After lunch drive back to Entebbe. Arrive and check in the hotel for dinner and overnight
